What is CSRD?
The Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) was adopted by the European Commission in November 2022. It replaces the Non-Financial Reporting Directive (NFRD) and requires a broader range of companies to disclose detailed ESG information.
The key goals of the CSRD include:
- Extending and standardising non-financial reporting rules to improve data comparability.
- Mandating audits for data reliability to address greenwashing and double accounting risks.
- Requiring reporting in XHTML format with digital tagging for integration into the European single access point.
Who Needs to Comply?
The CSRD applies to three main categories of businesses:
- Large EU Companies: Companies exceeding two of the following thresholds: over 250 employees, total revenues over EUR 50 million, or total assets over EUR 25 million.
- Listed Businesses: Companies listed on an EU-regulated market, including SMEs.
- Non-EU Entities: Companies with annual EU-generated revenues exceeding EUR 150 million and significant EU operations.
