John is a Certified Director and Bachelor of Commerce graduate of University College Dublin and also completed GE’s renowned Management Development Programme.
He has over 30 years’ experience at Senior Leadership Level in companies that are global leaders in their sectors. John has an outstanding track record in growth, operational excellence, and profit generation (organic & M&A) with a deep understanding of all aspects of commerce (sales/marketing, finance, operations, systems, transformation, and people).
John has worked in a full-time consultancy capacity for Lawler Sustainability from Q1 2021. During this time, he has worked on building the Sustainability Business in the Private Sector and into new sectors. We have since secured the first Private Sector EPC as well as over fifteen major sites across Leisure and Hospitality, Healthcare, and Industry.
This work has irrefutably proven the local and international opportunity for Lawler Sustainability. John’s focus in now on building the required people, systems, and governance structure to realise the potential for the business locally and internationally.
Prior to working with Lawler Sustainability John was the CEO of Aviva Ireland from 2013 to 2020. This role ended following the requirements post-Brexit to run Aviva’s two businesses in Ireland as separate legal entities with no Aviva Ireland executive positions.
During his time at Aviva Ireland the business was transformed from the worst performing business in its market and Aviva Group to the best performing insurer in the Irish market and Aviva Globally. Key proof points in this regard, include the following metrics
- 167% growth in operating profits to €125 million for Aviva Ireland in 2019.
- 25% growth in customer numbers & 300% increase in Net Promoter Score.
- 119% increase in people engagement score.
- Drove the acquisition and integration of Friends First; the largest ever Ireland driven acquisition which exceeded all investment expectations, including payback period and profit.
- Launched new brand campaign driving Aviva to become the #1 most trusted financial services brand in Ireland.
Before Aviva, John was a Director with RSA, Aon Global Brokers, and Allianz in Ireland. John led transformational profitable growth (organically and via M&A) across these organisations with an excellent track record in building high performance teams and best-in-class systems.
John worked internationally for GE from London and led their Insurance M&A team, completing multiple acquisitions including search, evaluation, closure, and integration. This work led to recognition from the GE Global Board.
These roles have led to significant experience of all business sectors (Pharma, Agri/Food & Beverage, Energy, Professional and Business Services, Construction, Transport, Retail, Manufacturing, Financial Services & Manufacturing).
