- Reduce energy costs through a structured approach to identifying and implementing efficiency improvements.
- Meet regulatory and stakeholder expectations by demonstrating commitment to sustainable energy management.
- Continually improve performance with a framework that sets, monitors, and achieves measurable energy objectives
ISO 50001 Gap Analysis

ISO 50001 is an internationally recognised framework for managing and improving energy performance, and it forms one of the more structured approaches within the broader family of energy audits. It takes a systems-based view, embedding continual improvement processes across an organisation. This makes it particularly valuable for businesses aiming to integrate energy management into their long-term operational strategy while meeting regulatory and sustainability commitments.
ISO 50001 Gap Analysis
Organisations seeking ISO 50001 certification must develop an Energy Management System (EnMS) that meets the standard’s requirements. A Gap Analysis helps determine how close your current systems are to compliance and what actions are needed.
Our methodology
The process typically consists of three phases:
- Gap analysis – Assess existing policies, procedures and energy data against the clauses of ISO 50001. Engage stakeholders to understand current practices and identify strengths and weaknesses.
- Implementation plan – Summarise findings and develop a detailed plan outlining activities, responsibilities and timescales for closing gaps. Identify resource needs and training requirements.
- Implementation support – Provide coaching to implement the plan. This may involve developing new procedures, establishing energy baselines and EnPIs, integrating EnMS into existing management systems, developing communication plans and training programmes, and preparing for external certification audits.
Outcomes
- Clear understanding of where existing practices meet or fall short of ISO 50001 requirements.
- Roadmap to achieve certification within a realistic timeframe and budget.
- Expertise and support to streamline implementation and ensure a successful certification audit.
