Part of the Abbey Creative Quarter Development, Mayfair Library goes way beyond building regulations with a thorough assessment to increase building performance and reduce running costs.
LEED Sustainability Assessment
The Mayfair building based in the heart of Kilkenny City has been converted into a modern public Library as part of the Abbey Creative Quarter Development.
Lawler Sustainability was appointed LEED consultants for this landmark building. Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) sustainability rating system sets out criteria that go beyond building regulations and covers almost all aspects of a project’s environmental impact.
Having your building LEED rated demonstrates a company’s desire to have an energy-efficient and environmentally friendly building.
For the Mayfair Library building, we targeted a Gold LEED Certification.
Advanced Energy Modelling
As part of the LEED criteria, we undertook Advanced Energy Modelling using ASHRAE 90.1 Methodology.
Our in-house expertise with the complex IES Virtual Environment HVAC software allows us to accurately predict the building energy consumption for each energy end-use. This information can then be used post-occupany to help the client to identify and minimise energy spikes.
Our work at Mayfair Library has gone beyond building regulations, helping the client to reduce energy consumption, carbon footprint, and operational costs.
Our engineering team made a number of important recommendations to maintain a high level of energy efficiency at Mayfair Library.
For instance, 39% of the building’s energy had previously been going exclusively on heating. Consequently, our engineering team recommended adding time controls to the heating system so that it is only being used when required.
This goes beyond building regulations and will help our client reduce energy, carbon footprint and operational costs. Other recommendations included replacing the lighting system with a newer, energy efficient LED model.
