Lawler Sustainability worked with Irish agri-tech company, BHSL to develop an innovative way of delivering energy from chicken manure.
Waste to Energy
BHSL is an Irish agri-tech company that is known for Fluidised Bed Combustion (FBC) – that is, converting untreated poultry manure into energy for heating, cooling and electricity generation to meet the energy needs of farms.
We worked with BHSL to design a new, innovative method for converting the heat from poultry droppings into energy, with any excess heat being used to warm the hen houses.
As a result, BHSL has witnessed reduced energy consumption, improved bird welfare, decreased pollution, and an improved business case for farmers.
CIBSE Building Performance Consultancy of the Year
When Lawler Sustainability won the CIBSE Building Performance Consultancy of the Year Award in 2020, our submission was praised for the innovation we displayed in delivering energy from chicken manure during the BHSL project.
This technology we helped to develop has been widely exported and used in chicken houses across the world, including Maryland in the United States of America.
